On this tour we will discover one of the most fascinating itineraries in the world of car racing. In 1954, a race against time was organized between Florence and Siena. The Florence – Siena Cup is won by Castellotti, a top-level professional driver, driving a Lancia D24. An exceptional vehicle for the time. The car was born following the intuitions of Gianni Lancia, in those years the creator of a real technical and engineering innovation. In 1952 Gianni, son of the founder Vincenzo Lancia, with more “sporting” ideas than his father, started a program to participate in competitions and enhance the brand. We are in the period immediately following the end of the Second World War and in those years of apparent confusion the car was a primary element in the fantasies and dreams of Italians. Brands that have become legends battle it out, seeking the affirmation of ideas, intuitions and experimental technologies. In other words, we are faced with the expression of Italian genius in one of the liveliest and most proactive periods in recent history.
The charm of the car race becomes a new symbol of modernity.
Affirmation and success summarize the impossible challenge: the confrontation between man, machine and speed. Our route winds through the Tuscan hills of Chianti Classico, places full of charm, artistic and landscape excellence. On board our Lancia Lambda we will travel along Via Cassia crossing urban centers and hills in a succession of landscapes of incomparable beauty. San Casciano, Tavarnelle, Barberino, Poggibonsi, Colle Val d’Elsa, Monteriggioni and then arriving in Siena where we will conclude our experience with a visit to the headquarters of one of the historic districts protagonists of the Palio, the Siena world famous horse race. Followed by lunch in a characteristic restaurant a stone’s throw from Piazza del Campo. It will be possible to choose whether to continue the tour with a guided visit to Siena in the afternoon or return to Florence on board an NCC vehicle available to our guests.
